Successful Spa Fundraiser Event

Our Day at the Spa event was highly successful and ultra classy, bringing in many more supporters for The Peru Project. There were hand and feet massages, and a successful silent auction--all of which contributed greatly to our fund! The girls in the club acted as the waiters, serving appetizers and mini desserts to the guests who enjoyed a wonderful evening of being pampered. There was also entertainment brought by the club members; Liyanna Sadowsky mesmerized the crowd with her heavenly plucking of her harp, and Mai Lee and Mira Malcolm wowed the crowd with a Billy Joel classic, "Vienna."

It was an awesome event for both the girls and the guests, and it definitely gave us a great funding boost!

Thank you so much for all of those who were able to attend. It was an amazing event, and your contribution to our club was greatly appreciated.

Only NINE DAYS LEFT! We're almost about to take off on this wonderful journey. Thanks for coming along with us!

We'll keep you posted,

Shopping, Shopping, Shopping!!

Only 2 weeks left until departure!!

In just 13 days, 15 of us will leave for Lima, Peru, in hopes of making a difference in the lives of many people (including ourselves!). We will be visiting the extremely isolated and impoverished village of Ccachin, located in the Andes Mountains to build greenhouses in order to improve the health conditions of the citizens. This trip will also be a women's empowerment movement, as this year, the club consists of all girls. With the degrading of women in these kinds of societies, it will be truly inspirational and motivational to the women suffering from prejudice.

All said, we just want to establish a great relationship with these people from a whole different world.

But there are still tons of things to get done...

We are planning on having a club shopping run, invading everywhere from Costco to Target to buy things we are planning on donating to the people of Ccachin. Some examples of things we're bringing include: toothbrushes/toothpaste, hairbrush, stuffed animals, soccer balls, frisbees, craft kits, school supplies, and etc.

It's time for the girls to infiltrate the stores!! ;)

We'll keep you posted,

Only Two Months Left to Go.....

It's finally approaching....

Our much awaited trip is only two months away! That also means we don't have much time left to raise the funds needed to support our trip and the fund needed to buy the greenhouse materials. Amidst the many little bake sales and raffles, we are still in the need of a BIG fundraiser. So that is the reason why we have decided to hold a SILENT AUCTION. In order for the event to happen, we need many donated gifts that we can auction off!

Are you (or you know someone who is) wanting to make a non-money donation to The Peru Project? Anything will be greatly appreciated! Please contact Club Adviser Jody Roberts at jroberts@carmelunified.org.

Thank you so much! Keep checking back here at theperuproject.blogspot.com for more updates!

What is the Peru Project??

So what exactly is The Peru Project?

We are a club established in August of 2010, and are made up of students from Carmel High School in Carmel, CA, and we are dedicated in raising funds to support the poverty-stricken families of Peru. At this moment, The Peru Project is teaming up with The Becky Fund organization to help raise money to build greenhouses in Peru. The Becky Fund is made up of graduate students from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and they have already supplied hundreds of Peruvian citizens with the basic necessities that they lack (i.e. school supplies, toothbrushes, blankets, pillows, etc.).

What is so great about building these greenhouses?

This can easily be explained by the extremely high-altitude environment that Peru is located in. For this reason, Peruvians are restricted to growing only roots such as potatoes and certain grains. As a result, numerous citizens suffer from malnourishment. With providing these greenhouses and the basic agricultural knowledge that they require, these poor families can lead better, healthier lives.

What exactly is our club's goal?

The Peru Project is dedicated in supporting the Peruvian citizens crippled by poverty, and its members are working hard to raise money to help construct greenhouses in Peruvian communities. The club has also planned to take a service trip down to Peru over the summer in order to build these greenhouses with The Becky Fund organization. Our club members are working diligently to raise funds and meet our goals.

Please support the Peru Project by making a donation! Click on the link below and enter '6513' in the Student ID section. This donation method is quick and easy! Just fill in your information and make a contribution.
